De-icers for Waterfowl Access
Want to keep an area of your large pond free from ice this winter
so waterfowl can access your pond or lake water? This is what you'll need:
Air compressor
Use our SCDC13 diaphragm air compressor for up to 80' of our de-icer tubing OR
use our SCRV33 rotary vane compressor for up to 200' of de-icer tubing.
De-icer tubing
Rock
cover or something to protect the compressor from the weather.
Tubing Fittings
Poly Tubing to run from the compressor to the
de-icer tubing.
This is how a "typical" set up may be:
Compressor (motor) is located in a garage or somewhere where there is electricity.
(If the compressor is outside, you will need something such as our rock cover to protect it from the
elements). Connect the poly tubing to the compressor and run it to the pond's edge.
From there, use a straight barbed connector (below) and attach the poly tubing to
the deicer tubing. Cut and configure the de-icer tubing to your desired
configuration (such as a "T" design, circle or zig-zag). Use the
appropriate type of connector (straight, barbed connector or T- connector) to attach the
de-icer tubing together.
Check our de-icer
index for other de-icer options.

Rotary Vane Compressor
This long lasting, continuous duty air compressor are oil-free and an excellent choice for
pond or lake aeration and de-icing. The carbon vanes self adjust to maintain maximum
efficiency and are easily replaced when worn out. Unit comes with air filter, 7'
power cord and a 1 year manufacturer's warranty. It draws 5 amps and produces 4.3 -
4.5 CFM for de-icing.Product Code: SCRV33

De-icer Tubing
This tubing is specially designed for de-icing. It has periodic weights within the
floating tubing so the tubing will have a buoyancy with a figure "M" effect in
the water. The tubing is slotted too, so the air comes out evenly throughout the
entire length of the tubing. This tubing is designed for de-icing. It is not
designed for aeration of ponds during the warm summer months.
It is commonly used for shallow areas (5 - 8') within a pond or lake with air
temperatures above 20° F. Of course, air temperatures fluctuate during the winter
so when air temperatures are below 20 degrees or so, the area that is "open"
(not frozen) would be smaller than when air temperatures are warmer. The design of
the air tubing (such as a zig-zag, "T" or circle) can be changed to accommodate
winter temperatures throughout the country. The denser an area within the pond is
with tubing, the greater the chances of keeping an area of it open.Product Code:

Poly Tubing
This flexible, kink resistance tubing is ideal to distribute air over a distance.
Because of long roll lengths available, few fittings are needed. It can easily
be buried and the compressor be held up in the garage or protected area from the elements.
This tubing would then connect to the compressor at the garage, be buried and then
connect to the special deicer tubing at the pond's edge, or wherever desirable.Product
