Information
About Fountains Fountains are nice to have in a pond and can be "packaged" as different
options. You can get a "Pre-filter, Pump, and Fountain Combo"
option that has everything nice & neat and all in one package. You just
pick out the size that meets the aeration requirements for your pond and you're all
set.(If this unit is the only unit to provide your pond with water circulation, you should
have a "Pump, Fountain, Combo" that will circulate 1/2 your pond's total volume
of water every hour.) You could also buy a pump that offers
fountain nozzle attachments for which have different spray patterns such as
"waterbell", "tulip", 3-tier, etc.
When you select the fountain nozzle of your choice, be sure to select a fountain that is
not too big for your pond. The height of the fountain spray should not be
larger than 1/2 the diameter of your pond. This is important to know
especially if your fountain is in the middle of your pond. The reason why you don't
want the fountain spray height to be higher than 1/2 the diameter of your pond is that
when the wind blows, your water should still remain within the pond. If your
fountain height is more than 1/2 the diameter of your pond, your pond's water could empty
right out into your lawn and before you know it, especially if you have a small pond, your
water is about gone. When choosing your fountain nozzle height calculate your pond's
diameter and see if the fountain will work for you. A great feature too, that I may
mention, are "diverter/flow control valves". These are great little
"tools" to have for your pond. Some "Pre-filter, Pump, Fountain
Combos" have diverter/control valves within them. These diverter/flow regulator
valves regulate the amount of water pressure you want to go to a particular water feature
including your fountain.
Some manufacturers like Beckett
and LittleGiant make fountain nozzles specifically to fit their pumps while other
manufacturers like OASE not only make fountain nozzles to fit their pumps, but the
fountains are standard sizes like 1/2" or 1" width where they could be used
interchangeable with other manufacturer's pumps as long as they are the size you need.
If you decide to have a fountain, I would definitely recommend
having a pre-filter to your pump so any silt, algae, etc. doesn't clog up your fountain
nozzle head. Pre-filters are nice to have for any water feature as they make your
pump last longer and aid in creating a cleaner, clearer pond.
