How it Works: In every day terms - the algae cells get shaken to bits! In a little more detailed term, the units come with a control box which sits on the shore. Inside the control box is a micro chip which digitally generates a range of ultrasound frequencies. The transducer (under the water) then emits these frequencies as a series of pulses five times per second. As these pulses strike the algae cells they start to oscillate. The algae cells then reach a point where they burst, much like an opera singer smashing a wine glass on the right note! Not only will the ultrasound frequencies kill algae cells but it also eliminates 'bio-film' which is the slime that is typically found on submerged surfaces such as on rocks and pond liners. Over time, algae grows on the biofilm. Ultrasound waves prevent fiofilm as well as other water-born pathogens such as E.coli. Works in All Seasons!
Ultra Sonic Algae Control is affected by two parameters:
The ultrasound waves/frequencies are absorbed as they travel through water and become weaker the further they are from the transducer. As a result, easy to control algae types can be controlled in close ranges but not as well far away. It is important that the transducer is located in the proper location of the pond. Typically, this is located at the furthest end of the pond with the transducer facing towards the opposite end of the pond. The clearest, most direct angle for the transducer to emit it's ultrasonic frequencies, the better. Islands, bays and other obstacles in the pond will limit the effectiveness of the unit. The Ultra Sonic Algae Control System can offer a great method of controlling algae. Its average life span is 10 years and it comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty. These units can easily pay for themselves many times over as the need for other pond chemicals may be significantly reduced while enjoying a clearer pond. |

The size of coverage area will depend on several factors including the type of algae being controlled. Simple algae forms like floating algae will be controlled over an area up to the sizes listed above. Harder forms of algae will be controlled over a smaller area due to their resistant nature. Other factors such as pond shape, presence of fountains/aerators, water clarity, weed growth, etc. will also affect coverage size. In larger ponds having complex shapes more than one device may need to be used. A minimum of 2 1/2' of water depth is required for any Ultra Sonic system to work properly.
